Chapter 401 - 401 I OVERESTIMATED MYSELF

Wu Jinhai, Yu Ming, and Wu Jingguo could hear his order, and they looked taken aback before obeying. They turned around before running towards Bai Lang who was now standing quite a distance from the battle area.

Once they got to the white wolf, they could see how the giant wolf immediately changed his form to that of a human. To be precise, the white wolf once again used Bai Chen’s body, and even Wu Jinhai was stunned by the transformation.

At first glance, it seemed that it was Bai Chen who was standing beside him, but Wu Jinhai knew that it was actually not his lover. Bai Chen’s hair was brown and not white, but the one standing next to him had white hair. He didn’t know what happened to allow Bai Chen to appear with long white hair, but he assumed that the hair color was affected by the Immortal Elder’s power.

After changing back into Bai Chen form, Bai Lang then used his hands to create a seal, and those hands were enveloped in white light before he pointed both hands at the group of high-level beasts. Before the beasts could get close to his position, a semi-transparent barrier formed from the ground to an area of forty to fifty feet above, and the beasts’ massive bodies directly smashed into it when they tried to get close to Bai Lang and the others.

The four men could then heave a sigh of relief when they could see how the Immortal Elder had managed to set up a barrier to restrict the beasts’ movement. They then silently stared at the beasts that continued to growl furiously after they were once again trapped in the barrier. They were no longer in the core area of the forest, but they were still trapped by another barrier, and that was why those beasts looked so angry when they couldn’t escape.

“Why didn’t you immediately trap them with a barrier from the start? Why did you insist on fighting them when you know that they are very strong and you won’t be able to handle them?” Wu Jinhai asked the man standing beside him.

Time and time again, he needed to remind himself that that person was not Bai Chen even though he was using Bai Chen’s body. Thus, his question left his lips coldly, and his golden eyes even dared to glare at that white-haired figure.

“That’s because I originally wanted to get rid of them completely,” Bai Lang replied without meeting Wu Jinhai’s cold gaze. “In the past, they were already very dangerous without the bad people taking advantage of them, but today they are even more dangerous when the bad people deliberately use them to blackmail us. That’s why I wanted to get rid of them completely, but maybe you’re right that those beasts are not our rivals. Years ago, I and the Immortal Daoist of Wu Li fought side by side against them, but we also couldn’t kill them all. In the end, we were also only able to trap them inside the barrier back then. Today their numbers lessened, and I thought I would be able to handle them even without the Immortal Daoist, but I have to admit that I overestimated myself.”

.....

Bai Lang did not sound arrogant with what he had just said, instead, his voice was tinged with embarrassment as he needed to admit that he had made a wrong calculation today. With the help of the three men, he thought he would be able to kill all the beasts today, but he failed to hit his arrogant target in the end.

“Thankfully, Bai Chen made me realize that I wouldn’t be able to kill all of them even if that was my goal,” Bai Lang spoke again when Wu Jinhai didn’t respond. “Before that silly kid suddenly shouted in my head, I still thought that I would be able to kill all the beasts, but then after hearing his words asking me to stop fighting, I realized that I was too arrogant. I am indeed strong, but nature is definitely stronger than me, and that’s why I have to know my limits. That’s why I can only trap them with another barrier as I did all those years ago.”

Suddenly, there was a hint of nostalgia in Bai Lang’s voice, perhaps reminiscing about what happened to him when he also fought those beasts all those years ago. However, Wu Jinhai’s focus wasn’t on how the white-haired man remembered what happened to him all those years ago. Instead, his attention was drawn to something else.

“You said Bai Chen shouted at you in your head? That means he is aware and can see what’s going on here, right? Where is he now?” Impatiently, Wu Jinhai threw a series of questions at the Immortal Elder.

And the Immortal Elder finally turned to him and replied, “Yes, Bai Chen can indeed see what’s going on, and I’m sure he can see your face right now. You don’t have to worry because I didn’t hurt him at all.”

This time, the Immortal Elder even smiled at him, and Wu Jinhai almost thought that it was Bai Chen who was smiling at him. That face and smile were indeed Bai Chen’s, but Wu Jinhai once again said to himself that it was someone else showing a smile in front of him.

“The beasts are once again trapped inside the barrier, and that’s why they won’t pose any more harm. So, can you return Bai Chen’s body to him? You no longer have anything to do with his body, right?” Wu Jinhai coldly asked the white-haired man.

And the white-haired man raised his eyebrows in amusement after hearing his cold question. “Are you sure that I no longer need to use his body, Wu Jinhai?” He suddenly asked mysteriously. “I’ve been watching over you for so many years, and I know very well how you’ve tried to find me in recent years. Are you sure you don’t have any questions or perhaps requests you’d like to ask of me? Are you sure you don’t want to return to being a normal human?”
